All the time!! I only hope he understands, and I think that, in a way, he does. He would recognize the familiar sounds of my words, and the soothing tone of my voice when I say it.
Yes! And he tells me he loves me. Well, my sister swears that's what he's saying. When he's on my lap sometimes he'll look at me with what seems to be adoration. He's probably just trying to decide what method to use to wake me up the next morning: the 'paw hair in the nose' method or the always effective 'claws in scalp.'
Still, a girl can dream: it *could* be adoration. If he weren't a cat. ;-)
I not only tell my cat I love him, but we do face rubs and head bumps. He really seems to like it and his reaction is quite different than the usual 'yeah, whatever' results of just general pets and rubs.
All the time and all three of my cats have different reactions to the verbiage and the things I do when I tell them I love them. ie: My big Male cat loves to have his tail pulled (don't try this at home) and if we've had a "disciplinary" session he knows the coast is clear when I pull his tail and then he's back for more. Or my little female wants to snuggle and muzzle my ear. My siamese is deaf so she is touched and massaged a lot and when she purrs? I know she got the message.
