I've heard true remorse in Michael Vick's voice. He sounded extremely humble. He did his full jail time and he is now able to be a deeply vocal and an actively campaigner against dog fighting, etc. He's more likely to be heard--especially by many who still support and participate in dog fighting--because he is a famous star football player who has "(wrongfully) been there;(wrongfully) done that" and now sees how horrendous that was.
I know you're not a Christian, Warren, but Jesus said "Go and sin no more!" thereby granting a genuine person healing and another chance. Michael Vick, who now has another chance, seemed genuine to me. He will not engage, support, etc. dog fighting anymore. He will become an active spokesperson against dog fighting. He deserves this second chance, and he should use it well. Let's see the good he does with it.
There are countless people who always say, "Everyone deserves a second chance." There are others who always say, "Once a...; always a...". Well, in MV's case, give him a chance.
I agree with you Warren. I heard he will be on 60 minutes tomorrow - which I dread - but I may watch just to hear what he says. I"m sure he will sound repentent but like you said, he didn't apologize before he was convicted. And I hadn't even thought of what happened to Pete Rose - but you are absolutely correct. What did he get out of this? He didn't need the money, so did he enjoy the hideousness of what was going on?
I wonder if he felt badly because of what he did or because of the potential financial hit he could have taken, i.e. not be signed with the NFL?
I am curious how he's changed? I guess I will be more informed if I so choose to watch.
Thank you Warren for caring about all the animals and being their voice. They are true blessings and I am so grateful they are here on this planet to be our friends and family.
I think it's horrible that they reinstated Michael Vick to the NFL. He's not sorry one bit, he's sorry he got caught. I listened to his press conference where he said how much of that what he did affected his career. Not once did he mention or show regret or remorse to what he did to those poor dogs. They only thing that man, if you can call him a man, did was complain on how getting caught affected his life. In my opinion he got exactly what he deserved, I only wish his prison stay was longer. No form of punishment is too harsh for Vick. They day that man suffers the fear and pain those poor dogs felt, especially the ones being hung upside down as training for the other dogs, is the day I'd call it even.
He's done his time. He has to earn a living instead of going on public assistance. However, he should never be allowed to own a dog or cat or any OTHER animal again. If he is ever caught with an animal again, he should be sent back to prison for a long, long time.
Public assistance?!! He certainly is not pennyless and so low on money that he would need food stamps, etc.! If he has the right to earn a living and since his expertise (besides torturing dogs) is football, let him clean the toilets in the rest rooms at the games.
I believe every serial killer has had a past history of animal abuse. Dog fighting alone is cruel enough, and then torturing these poor dogs and killing them because they lost a fight is the act of a very depraved person. There are many people who are not dog lovers, or pet lovers, but they don't go out of their way to do harm to an animal. They just chosse not to own one, and that is fine. But to show a depraved indifference to the suffering of these poor dogs says something about the nature of the man. I would like to have seen more jail time, however, he certainly should not have been reinstated to the NFL. He does not deserve that privilege.. It sends the wrong message.
By his reinstatement, Michael could contribute funds to help a lot of animals. The ones that he destroyed are gone, and the past is the past. The future of many animals is the issue. If some good can come from Michael, then he should be allowed to play. He should be allowed to prove that he has a different attitude towards animals. He paid his debt, according to the law, and now he has a second chance. We should all be supportive and give him a chance.
Hmm. The NFL is about making money, and they'll reinstate him because they want more money, no surprise there. Many of us think the NFL should not have members like him because he would be a bad role model, and that they should just drop him and forget him. He may or may not be remorseful, I don't know, and frankly, I don't care. I wouldn't have reinstated him, but I'm not in the football business. If I were, it wouldn't be much of a business, because I would be more concerned about doing the right things, than about WHATEVER IT TAKES to make money. Always remember THAT is what they are all about. If he ever gets caught abusing animals, he should be locked up for a VERY long time. Again, I personally couldn't be associated with someone like that. Let him sell shoes. If he is truly remorseful, that is between him and God, none of us have anything to do with it. We just lock up people like that to protect ourselves and others, including animals.
Hi, Warren. My greatest disappointment is that sports figures, like him, are idolized by their fans, kids in particular. So, does this send a message to our children that if they do something similar to what he did, as long as they 'pay their dues', it's ok to say your sorry and just go back to what they were doing with their lives before? This obviously doesn't rid the world of the unknown people who do this and are not visible. My stomach turns just thinking of articles I have read about cat tortures, chicken fighting, etc. He has to look in the mirror everyday and if he really is remorseful, maybe he has come to the realization of how sick he was doing what he did. And as others have said, God will forgive him...I just don't ever want to be in the same room with him or anyone who does these horrific things...I'd have a hard time keeping my lunch down.
Someone who has killed and tortured so many living things cannot,, by spending 18 months in a comfortable prison, just say, "Gee, I made a mistake". We wouldn't let a pedophile or one who has murdered get off with that statement. Torture is torture and death is death. "I'm sorry" means I was rude, stepped on your foot, interrupted you, or said a hurtful thing. "I'm sorry" doesn't forgive his acts and deeds, nor do I. He should get the same sentence as that pedophile or that murderer of humans. He's not sorry but just sorry he got caught. He is a sociopath, a psychopath, and a murderer. Anyone who condons his acts is equally guilty and I will speak out against them and their organizations. I want to ask him, "Who or what is next?".
I am absolutley disgusted by this "monster" and I am even more disgusted by the animal rescue organizations that are forgiving him and giving him a second chance. When my mother passed on, in lieu of flowers, we asked for contributions to be sent to the Humane Society and over the years have contributed generously. This murderer, this poor excuse for a human being should be made to pay for his crimes. The fact that he is a popular sports figure and children and young people admire athletes is even more reason for him not to be allowed back into the football league. He needs to sit in front of a panel and give up the names of all other monsters in his organization. He should not be allowed near animals. His sentence was not sufficient. He is a vile and evil disgrace, not only to the sports world but to our human race. The owners of the football league as well as the team should be embarassed and question their reasons as to why this murderer is allowed back to earn millions of dollars. His earnings should be given to decent animal rescues, not organizations who want to be politically correct and have since given him a second chance. Who gave the poor tortured animals a second chance. who came to their rescue. I am deeply saddened and my heart breaks for those poor dogs and the violent and devastating treatment given to them. DO people realize that these violent"groups" steal dogs from back yards, grooming salons, parks and wherever and whenever the opportunity arises just to use these poor unsuspecting pets as bait in these horrific dog fights. Perhaps Vick should be placed in the same situation. Eye for and eye, tooth for a tooth, paw for a paw. I hope and pray that one day this horrific and deplorable poor excuse for a person realizes his evil doings. until then, let's hope the public is now more aware of these goings on, and give their pets a big kiss and hug and keep them close. They have feelings, too.
Warren, I heard your passionate conversation on the radio show today. I agree that people like Vick should be locked up for a loooong time. Just because he said he is sorry doesn't mean he should go unpunished, and be forgiven just like that. If he is truly sorry, that is between him and God, not us. All we know is that he is capable of horrible cruelty, and should not be scott free just like that, and suddenly trusted, just like that. What price has he paid? If he is spending time and effort and money helping animal organizations, that is fine, but I agree it is way too soon. If any of those poor dogs were any of our pets, we'd be demanding Vick's head, and rightfully so. Who is there to speak for those poor animals? As for informing the authorities about anything regarding dog fighting that he knows, I would hope he was already asked all of those questions, and that he gave full and truthful answers, so that those criminals could be stopped and prosecuted. If not, that is also a travesty, and in my opinion, a sin. Also, it would be an indication of untrue remorse and BS apologies. As you said on today's radio show, Vick's crimes were not a simple "mistake", like he forgot to buy enough stamps or put his keys on the wrong hook. Some of you people out there should do a search and look at pictures and read about dog fighting. These were intenional, horrible crimes, the torturing of animals! Look at your pet, and think about how you would feel if your precious dog or cat were subjected to Vick's cultural activities. Leave the forgiveness to God, only He can see if someone is truly sorry. I'd rather not trust someone who is capable of such evil. As a people, we must protect the innocent.
"THANKS WARREN FOR TAKING A STAND ON MICHAEL SICK AND TO ALL YOUR LISTENERS FOR THEIR SUPPORT" First of all his sentenace was to short, He should have been lowered into a pit with the most fercious and hungry animals on the planet so he could have expierenced first hand what he did to these innocent and loving animals. Why not let the animals do to him what he did to them ? Then he could spent the next 20 years in Sheriff Joe Arpao's Prision caring for the animals doing something productive with his life instead of throughing a football around. Upon leaving prision He should have been ordered. To visit all of the shelters in the 50 states clean up after and bath the animals. You hear on the news every day of animal shelters across the country being forced to close due to lack of money. What better spokes person than Michael Sick. Heck he could charge admission and he fans would pay. Alot the NFL and the Philadephia Eagles care about who they employ and the future of animal abuse. Why doesn't the NFL and the Eagles instead of a spending money a STupid BOWL Halftime show Bring out all of the animals for Adoption and hopefully the animals will leave there calling card on the field for Michael Sick to Clean UP! Besides that you mean to tell me that there were no other Quater Backs available what about giving a Veterianary Student a chance or let someone walk on . SHame on you Eagles. I love the person that responeded Michael Sick should clean Toilets for the NFL. How can the Philadephia the city of brotherly love and a name like the Eagles hire an animal abuser???????????? If they wanted to do something right they should rename the team the PHILADEPHIA BEAGLES. Gotta go keep up the great work. Proud dad of 2 Rescued Rottweilers.
