I don't. I have a 10 month old long hair tiger tabby who bites. When he was younger people told me it was because he was teething. Now that those long teeth have come in, each bite draws blood. Sometimes he pounces on me and makes a squeeling sound when he's in mid air. There are times I can't get him to stop so I put him in another room for a few minutes and other times he'll stop quickly, after the first bite. For months I carried a water bottle around and sprayed him when he bit. This works well... just the sight or sound of it works. If I don't have it though, I'm fair prey. One minute he's very affectionate, the next he's attacking. He's a neutered and healthy cat and the vets have no explination for this behavior.
When my cat would bite my hands, ankles, or legs, I would just walk away. If she still followed me and bit, I would turn and say something short like, "Nope, we'll play later." And keep walking away from her. As long as I didn't give her a lot of attention (positive or negative) after a while she got the message I wasn't going to be around when she was biting. I'm a writer, so I spend a lot of time at the keyboard, and my vet said she was trying to get my attention.
Since your cat seems to be in the "advanced stages" of biting, maybe an airhorn would help. Just a blast from behind our back, and it will probably catch your cat off guard enough to stop. Repeated blasts may have your cat associating the loud, unpleasant blasts with his biting, and he will stop. It may take some time for him to make the connection, and it's just a suggeston. The airhorns are at pet stores or on Warren's website.
I have a 11 month old american pitbull and she is the greatest! The survey question asked if i enjoy the fact my pet is not perfectly behaved? To expect you pet to be perfectly behaved is beyond asking to much. Our pets are like our children we are to love them and provide for them. Sure there is time for correction but to be upset with you pet because they misbehave is like being angered with your child because hes a child. Aminals are exactly that animals so to be upset because your animal is being its self then maybe its you that needs to change?
I laugh when my Pomeranian isn't perfect, because whatever it is that he is doing, it is what dogs do. They're funny. So are cats, especially when they're playing with something, or laying down inside a paper bag or a box. That's what animals do. This is really a great question, Warren, because it goes to the fundamentals of pet ownership. Do we want a pet because of the way it IS, or do we want something for status? Do we accept our pet for who they are? They certainly accept us........
