this is one one the saddest animal stories I have heard. obviously the guy is innocent until proven guilty, but the force seems WAY too excessive to give creedence to his story. my condolences to the owners. how heartbreaking!

As an animal lover, and a Vet Tech, I am sickened and haunted by stories of animal abuse. This story, however, makes me wonder what are the owners' responsibilities in this incident? Dog owners need to always be in control of their dogs--on a leash, in a securely fenced area or in the house. Would you let a 2 year old run unsupervised across your lawn onto the neighbors" lawn? Of course not. I tend to dogs all the time who are injured due to their owners' lack of control. What the neighbor did was horrendous, but it never would have happened in the first place if the owners had been in control of their puppy. Instead of filing a high dollar lawsuit, which won't stop abuse or heal anything, I think the owners should take responsibility for their part in this.

There is no excuse for this kind of action toward an animal, and if it is true that Karley was released from her fenced in area by the accused, the book should be thrown at him.

I think edm needs to get his/her head examined and grow some compassion. I also think the monster that beat Karley to death need to suffer a punishment equal to the crime. There is no excuse why this guy should not be tried (and convicted) as a murderer, which is what he is.

Karley was in a fenced yard, but sometimes puppies are like kids alway's exploring. The Tooles are concientious pet guardians, as I have spoken to them many times. The puppy getting out was an accident, the killing of Karley was not!!!!!

I am FURIOUS how could any rational human being act so horribly .He needs BRONX justice..(treated the way he treated Karley)

I find it hard to believe that this thug like person was actually a "public servant!" He's a danger to society!

I agree with myteddy, he should be treated the way he treated Karley. Pets are NOT property and they should have the same justice when they have been wronged as humans. In some countries where they revere animals if a human does harm to them, the human being gets punished severely. Nowhere in this world are you going to find more unconditional love than through a dog, cat, any animal that you give your heart to, you get it right back, ten fold. I, as a dog owner, will never, ever get over what happened to Karley.

My heart breaks every time I hear more and more about this case. Where is the justice for this defenseless animal.
So now this so called 'public servant' has a countersuit? Are you kidding me? You know, here's my opinion...
Hurt a defenseless animal or a young child and let's just do to them what they have done. Barbaric...I don't think so.
Wasn't it barbaric what this jerk did to Karley? We're behind this whole effort to bring justice to this killer. Karley will get justice, I know she will. We have to fight and we have to believe for Karley and all the rest of the innocent babies
who die in the hands of jerks like this guy. Thank you, Warren, for leading the way.

We support the family all the way. To the end. and if we have to go and do a million furbaby walk to washington d.c with all of our four legged family members then that is what we have to do to put these monsters behind bars for a long time.

Everytime I look at my Elsa I cry as she looks like Karley.

We are with you Jeff and Shelley.

The world is ok, it's some of the people in it, who are so evil. This mutant, who savagely hurt Karley, does not deserve mercy. I have to stop myself from thinking about the pain, fear and terror Karley was subjected to and felt The mutant deserves jail and preferably with animal lovers, who can deal out additional justice to this heartless vermin.

Thank you, Warren, for all you do.

Once again our "justice system" gave EVIL a slap on the wrist! Then, insult to injury, have this sub-human assigned to work with dogs! He even "tap danced" around his "apology", saying he was sorry for the "incident"....that alone indicates he is NOT sorry. Brutalizing, torturing, a helpless animal is not an "incident"! I am so sory for the poor Toole family & the aguish this monster has caused. Who'll be next...??!

Once again, somebody uses their power, control and EGO to kill this beautiful dog Karley. I'm not sure what this guy is doing now, heard he's retired. Whatever the story is, it's hard to believe that a jury would give him 90 days weekends only. Bottom Line: Somebody should just take him out, if ya know what I mean, or at the minimum, take him to an empty road, beat his head with a rock - and leave him there. That's the least the bum should get. By his picture - this is an angry man, fat, most likely suffering from bad health issues. Put him out of his misery.

Warren, I am sick!! This man is a killer. I don't know how this judge can sleep at night. I will do whatever I can to keep on telling people about him and others like him. Any protests, anything that you decide to do to fight for animal abuse count me in. I volunteer with a resuce you know well and you have met me and my Delilah. We have to start really being serious about this. I can no longer stand still and hope that the right thing will be done. People need to understand what this means. There is a killer loose and it may be a child next.

Justice was NOT served...I wonder why? Was Hanks afraid that if he put forth a stronger sentence that he would be considered a racist? Does race have anything to do with the light sentence? Johnson deserves much worse and I only wish we had a justice system that would do it's job. Can we protest in front of his house? Karley couldn't fight back but I can.
