ANIMAL COMMUNICATORS: ARE THEY REAL?

Every day, Public Relations firms contact my office to see if I would interview their clients on my radio shows, almost all of them representing themselves as “animal communicators” -- a phenomenon in the last few years. Over the years I have worked with animals on almost every continent and have actually had the opportunity to meet and work with people that I believe were really capable of communicating with pets, using thoughts only. Maybe it’s something in the kibble, but it seems that all of a sudden, thousands of people are now claiming that they are capable of talking and listening to animals and are more than willing to tell you what your pet is thinking about. As I stated earlier, I have worked with animal psychics and have even been called an animal psychic myself, but I feel that my abilities strictly lie in my understanding animals mentally and physiologically from their perspective.

What do you think? Are there legitimate pet psychics, and if so, what should they be using their talents to accomplish? Do you think many pet owners, with their need to believe, are being ripped off because of some charlatans?

Hi Warren!

Personally, I believe we can be in TUNE with our pets...all of us...IF we establish the "bond".

Do I believe there are individuals who can "communicate" with any and all animals???!! I must say, I would be SKEPTICAL of a person making that claim. I have seen on TV a few of these folks...and I did not BELIEVE them; BUT, of course, I could be 100% wrong...LOL!

I think that, what often appears to be a psychic connection with animals, is just an understanding fo the animals themselves. I have a background in psychology, and my wife is often amazed at my understanding of our cats attempts to communicate. The thing to remember is that cats, dogs, birds, mice, and all other animals, are intellegent beings in their own right. They think and feel, perhaps not in as complex patterns as humans, but they do none-the-less. In this I have to concur with Warren completely, that understanding an animal can be achieved by understanding the psychology of the animal, and the physiological needs that drive it.

Does this debunk "animal psychics"? Of course not, and whether a person who cares for animals is psychic, magic, or some extra-demensional being, I don't care, so long as they actively seek to improve the lives of our furrry (Or feathery/scaly) friends! With that said, I will add that while I personally doubt the existance of psychic phenomeneon, I also doubted Schwartzenegger would get into politics (Use that as a gauge to my prediction accurancy ;c)

I become really skeptical when the "psychic" opens the conversation with, "Now, tell me. What is your pet's name?"

I'm not so sure about pet psychics. I do, however, believe in pet psychologists. Sometimes, even the most loving pet owner does not know how to correctly interpret their pet's behavior or even what to do about it. With the help of someone who really understands non-human animal behavior, I think that the relationship between a human and their pet can be enhanced so that they are both on the same page, so to speak. By the way, Smudge's Mom, is Smudge a Burmese/Siamese boy kitty about 10 yrs. old? I ask because a friend of mine has/had a kitty named Smudge. It's a small world sometimes!
