THE TRUTH ABOUT DOGS AND CATS
THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT CATS AND DOGS---AND OTHER MEANDERING THOUGHTS.
Why is there so much bad advice when it comes to our pets’ behavioral problems!
For well over thirty years, I have devoted my life to helping people understand and resolve their pets’ problems, and now there seems to be a flood of so-called animal behaviorists and pet psychologists who are giving advice to owners that is just wrong.
For example, never let your dog walk in front of you -- otherwise he’ll think he’s the boss or the ‘alpha dog.’ What nonsense! How about just letting your dog enjoy his walk? I’ve even heard these so-called professionals tell people that they have a bad pet and nothing short of euthanasia will do. Remember, two of these very same people evaluated my Cisko and 180 other dogs as too aggressive to be placed -- all should be killed -- convincing even the head of the L.A. County’s shelter system (whom to this day doesn’t except the fact that she was wrong). I invite all of them to come over and meet Cisko and the other dogs that were rescued. (Note: you can see them under the scrapbook icon at www.thepetshow.com)
My going against the County cost me dearly, but in the end I was right and these people have to live with themselves.
On a lighter note, Cisko and Skyler spent the week in Arizona with us and it was really hot, 105 or higher. I ran to the store and purchased a kiddy pool and found that all they needed was a Margarita and some good tunes, and they were very content.
Many of my bloggers have been asking for more photos, and I’m promised by my webmaster that they will be appearing soon. If you would like to see more, send me photos of your pets to the website.
LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD KIDS
If you know of a child that loves animals, and would like to write articles for the website, please let me know. If you’re a teacher and have a class that would like to write, let me know.
Why does there appear to be so much competition among the humane groups? They‘re all working towards the same goal -- yet some groups are great and work with the other humane organizations-- and some seem to believe that they need to be secretive and work on their own. Comments, please
Until next time
Hugs and kisses
Warren

Hi Warren:
Thank you for addressing this very serious situation...there are MANY who now call themselves..."trainers"..."experts"...etc!!!
Sadly, I feel very sorry for the pets whose guardians follow the advise given by these individuals...for it will only cause the dog to have MORE problems; and be put to sleep!
...just CONTINUE to give your listeners the GOOD, practical, intelligent ADVICE you have been giving out for all these years..for indeed your METHODS..make a whole lot of sense!
Hugs and kisses,
Mary and Buffie too!
This issue is pretty scary: there is NO place 'out there' for new dog owners to get the straight poop; it's ALL hit or miss; mostly misses.
As a new dog owner, everything is new and coming to me through a lot of trial and error, BUT there is no 'reliable' way to weed through well intentioned, yet wrong headed advice and to distinguish between 'fact' and 'opinion'.
Although I've had this dog for over 6 months now; the most common advice to me (from 'experts' who are making a small fortune from folks like me) is that it would be kindest to euthanize--all because, in their opinion, the dog is neurotic, phobic, manic and has OCD. I think the dog just has some 'issues' and, with the right help, we can work past them!
Unfortunately, I am not finding any kind of 'reasonable' help--so I continue to try anything and everything, hoping I hit on the right combination for me and the dog. (I've raised 6 kids; dogs are NOT easier! But there's a lot more info available re: kids that's proven!)
As a caveat--SOME animal control folks have been VERY encouraging; don't know about LA County--but the folks in a very small place called Lawndale, CA, are always helpful and available for answering questions. They even do an annual pet fair with low cost/no cost shots and things.

I have a male cat who was going outside of the box. He was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and was given meds to cure. After urinating on everying in my apartment, he started using the box again. However, he uses his litter pan once or twice during the day and then decides he wants to use something else. Lately it has been my bathtub. I clean the pan daily. Sometimes I have to work a double shift at work and then go back in early the next day. So, I stay at the hotel I work in. The pan doesn't get cleaned on these days until I get home the day after. Could there still be a small infection that he has or is he just particular about having a very clean pan? Can I get something over the counter or will he need to see the vet again? What can I do to help reduce the risk of another infection?
Thanks for your help.

Warren,
I have a very lovable male cat who is going on 13 years old, but still acts like he's 3. And, just like in the old Garfield cartoons, wakes me up with very loud meows when he wants something. I've tried putting extra food in his bowl , giving him fresh water, and cleaning his litter box all before I (we) go to bed, but now it seems he just wants to wake me up, as if he's bored and wants someone to play with. This morning (at 5am) he even went so far as to drop one of his toys on my pillow. Cute, right? Aside from his meows making for a very groggy morning, I'm afraid he will irritate my roomate enough that we will be asked to leave. And there's no way I'm giving him up.
He's a very well trained cat, doesn't tear up anything, and has made a wonderful transition from mostly outdoor to full time indoor cat in the past year, but I'm clueless as to how to get him to stop meowing so much.
Any suggestions?
