Musings from Warren Eckstein & The Pet Show

THE PET SHOW BLOG

Welcome to the beginning of what will become the largest Pet blog in America.

So why a pet blog now? It occurred to me that after every radio show, every television show and every appearance I make, that there is never enough time to talk about all of the issues that affect our pets. The blog will allow me not only to get more information out to the pet-loving public, but also to get important feedback as to what you want to hear. It’s clear, therefore, that you my audience are an integral part of this blog. I will be sharing pet advice -- some serious and some fun. I will keep you updated on the latest happenings in the pet world and the humane community. The Pet Show blog will also give you the ability to interact with each other about just how important your pets are in your lives and share smiles and tears with each other.

I’m an early riser and on Sunday (Fathers Day), I woke up early and made my famous coffee which, of course, no one in the house would drink except for me. As I do every morning, I sat out in the yard watching Skyler and Cisko chase each other and make sure that their were no insurgent squirrels in the yard. I spend a lot of time talking to Skyler and Cisko and it occurred to me that many pet owners miss out by not having conversations with their pets. People often wonder why their pets pester them whenever they are on the telephone. Our pets don’t understand that you can talk to someone who is not in the room with you, so when they hear you and nobody else is around, they assume you are talking to them.

To most animals, high-pitched sounds mean praise and excitement; low-pitched ones reflect authority and anger. If you want to get your message across to your pet, vary the pitch of your voice. Remember, the more time you spend talking to your pet, the larger their vocabulary becomes. So Gab Away.

I would love to hear about some of the conversations you have with your pets.

How about some input on what you what like to see on my blog?

I think getting involved in a memorial service is great. Especially since "how can there be a heaven without pets?" However, I believe it should be done on small scale without being overdone.

Warren, you should definitely do this. Why not? Did you know this pet or it's owners? If it's something you are completely removed from - then it's strange. But if you feel it's something you want to do and feel would benefit others in a good way, why not?

Warren - it's a lovely idea, if you can afford the time - but I'm sure that pet owners would appreciate it. Of course, I'm not sure pets are particularly concerned about memorial services, but then again, funerals are really for those left (temporarily) behind, right?

Oh, guess I did something wrong. Is everyone sleping? Helloooo! I'm off work for 2 weeks and have the time. Next week is 4th of July; the worst time for animals. I'm sure that even this weekend people will be shooting off their own fireworks. Please be sure to keep your pets indoors, (where they should always be, IMO). Also, keep a collar on them at all times with your name and number just in case.

Warren,
I know you have often mentioned the danger of heat stroke in dogs.
The dog of one of my friends has been hospitalized for several days due to severe heat stroke. They don't know if she will make it. My friend is falling apart over this. The dog suffered her heat stroke at night. No one thought there would be any danger in playing with her at a park after dark.
Please continue to warn of this danger.
You're the best.
Thanks,,,,,,

Warren I had a question for you. I thought I caught part of it SAt. But not sure. I have a 7 year old German pinscher. Her name is belle. How do I get her from going into the litter box and eating poop. It's in the back of the kitchen I have no closets or anywhere the block off the litter box. Heather

I think being an animal chaplin is a great idea. To be able to comfort the animals and most of all comfor the people who have to be separted from them. I say go for it!

A gal called in last week asking what to do about incontinence in her dog.

We treated our 7 year old Kuvasz "Heidi" successfully with acupuncture treatments at our vet in L.A., and used "Leaks No More" homeopathic remedy, for a short time. She is 100% cured now and we are ALL so happy!

Acupuncture & holistic allergy elimination treatments helped Heidi greatly with reducing and minimizing her seizures!

Love your show Warren! Great Job!

Of, please do it if you can.

I think the one thing that turned me off organized religion was when I was at "Church School" and was told I couldn't love animals because they have no "souls". I decided at the ripe old age of eight that that was a place I didn't need to be.

I think a minister who would have a memorial service for a pet should be lauded. And if you have the time, I think it would be a tremendous comfort to the grieving owners.

I know. I had to help my 14 year old dog cross one week ago today. Fortunately, my friends are all animal lovers (or they wouldn't be my friends), so I do have a supprt system.
